The editorial board is responsible for the opinion and editorial content published by Montana Politics. Its work is kept separate from the newsroom’s news reporting, so that coverage of events remains independent of any editorial position.

What the editorial board does

The board reviews matters of public interest in Montana — state policy, local governance, elections, and the stewardship of public resources — and may publish editorials, endorsements of policy approaches, or commentary intended to inform public debate. Editorials represent the considered view of the board, not the reporting staff.

Opinion versus news

All opinion content is clearly labeled as such. Our news reporting follows a separate set of editorial standards built around accuracy, fairness, and independence. Readers should never have to guess whether they are reading a news report or a point of view.

Submissions

We welcome letters and guest commentary from Montanans across the political spectrum. Submissions should be original, factual, and civil. To propose a letter or op-ed, please get in touch. We consider all submissions but cannot publish every one, and we may edit for length and clarity.
