Good journalism often starts with a tip from someone who knows something the public should. If you have information about state government, local officials, public spending, elections, or any matter of public interest in Montana, we want to hear from you.
How to reach us
The simplest way to share a tip is by email: editor@montanapolitics.org. Tell us what you know, how you know it, and how we can follow up. Documents, records, photos, and data are all welcome and often help us verify a story.
Protecting your identity
If you wish to share information confidentially, say so when you contact us, and we will discuss how to communicate more securely before you send anything sensitive. We take source protection seriously and will not publish identifying details about a confidential source without consent.
What makes a strong tip
The most useful tips are specific and verifiable. Names, dates, dollar figures, locations, and supporting documents help us confirm what happened. We independently verify information before publishing, so the more detail you can provide, the faster we can assess whether there is a story.
What happens next
We review every tip we receive, but we cannot pursue or respond to all of them, and a tip is not a guarantee of coverage. If we decide to report on what you have shared, a member of our staff may contact you for more information.
