Amy Eddy held a 61% to 39% advantage over Dan Wilson in the race for an open seat on the Montana Supreme Court, though the contest remained uncalled at the midnight results update.
Eddy had received 218,297 votes, compared with 138,744 for Wilson. The two Flathead County district court judges are seeking to replace outgoing Justice Beth Baker.
Early returns
At 8:45 p.m., when 59,360 ballots had been processed statewide, Eddy was ahead by about 12,000 ballots. By midnight, her lead had expanded to the 61-39 margin reflected in the available returns.
Eddy was appointed to the bench in 2015 and was selected to preside over Montana’s asbestos claims court. Wilson, a former prosecutor, has served as a Flathead District Court judge for 10 years.
Judicial election context
Montana has seven seats on its Supreme Court, including the chief justice. The positions are elected statewide on a nonpartisan basis.
Wilson previously ran for the Montana Supreme Court in 2024, losing that contest by 14 points. During this year’s campaign, he aligned with the state Republican Party.
Montana voters also considered Constitutional Initiative 132, which would retain the nonpartisan structure for Montana judicial elections.
