Montana Politics is committed to accurate, fair, and independent reporting. These standards describe how we approach our work and what readers can expect from our coverage.
Accuracy
We verify information before we publish it and attribute claims to their sources. When we make a mistake, we correct it promptly and note the correction so readers understand what changed. Accuracy takes priority over speed.
Fairness and independence
We do not favor any political party, candidate, elected official, or advocacy group. On contested questions, we seek out and represent differing viewpoints in good faith, describing each position as its proponents would. We keep news reporting separate from opinion content, and we label opinion clearly.
Sourcing and transparency
We prefer named sources and primary records — public documents, official data, meeting records, and on-the-record statements. We tell readers where our information comes from whenever we can, and we provide context so facts can be understood, not just listed.
Corrections
If you believe we have published something inaccurate, please let us know. We review every request and will correct confirmed errors as quickly as possible.
Independence from coverage
Our editorial decisions are made independently of any outside interest. Coverage is not influenced by advertisers, sponsors, or sources, and no one outside our newsroom directs what we report.
