Montana Governor Greg Gianforte announced that the state secured $2.1 million from an oil and gas lease sale on public trust lands. The governor made the announcement alongside officials from the Department of Natural Resources and Conservation.

Lease Sale Details

The transaction involved 12 distinct stretches of land located in Musselshell, Sheridan, and Toole counties. Revenue generated from leasing state trust lands is directed to Montana’s education fund, providing financial support for the state’s school systems.

In addition to the energy leases, the governor noted that timber sales contributed an extra $245,000 in revenue. These combined proceeds help bolster the state’s educational budget through resource management on public lands.
