Montana Gov. Greg Gianforte announced Larry Flynn as the next director of the Montana Department of Transportation, replacing outgoing Director Chris Dorrington.
Flynn has spent more than three decades in public service with MDT, working in operations, finances and policy development. He has served as the department’s deputy director since 2023.
Before becoming deputy director, Flynn served as MDT’s chief financial officer and administration division administrator. He held those positions for 16 years.
MDT employs more than 2,000 people and operates with an annual budget of about $1 billion. Flynn is a Montana State University graduate with a degree in business management.
“Larry Flynn is the right leader to continue the positive progress we’ve seen at MDT under Director Dorrington’s leadership,” Gianforte said.
Flynn said he was honored to take charge of the department, which he described as a place where he has dedicated his professional life.
