Matthew Dye appeared Monday afternoon in Lincoln County District Court after being charged in the shooting deaths of Lincoln County Deputy Ryan Terpsma and Merissa Walker.
Dye, 50, faces two counts of deliberate homicide and one count of attempted deliberate homicide. He did not enter a plea during the hearing.
Friday Night Shooting
Terpsma was shot Friday night while responding to a disturbance call in Eureka. Walker was found dead at the scene with fatal gunshot wounds.
A Eureka police officer was struck twice in the back by gunfire during the incident. The officer’s body armor stopped the bullets.
A girl was injured after hiding in the woods from Dye. A 7-year-old girl who was in Dye’s vehicle was not injured.
Dye was stopped at a roadblock near Whitefish after shooting at officers during the pursuit.
Custody and Hearing Date
Judge Jay Sheffield ordered Dye held in the custody of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office. Sheffield did not set bail.
Dye’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 18.
