Montana completed its 2026 primary election on Tuesday, June 2, with voters participating in Republican, Democratic, and Libertarian contests spanning federal, state, and local legislative races across the state.
Polls closed at 8 p.m. Tuesday, and results continued to be tabulated into Wednesday morning. The primary sets the stage for a competitive November general election in several high-profile races statewide.
Among the most closely watched contests was the open U.S. Senate seat. Republican candidates Kurt Alme and Matt Bankhead claimed victories in their respective primaries, positioning them for a November race that will include independent candidate Seth Bodnar. Alme and Bodnar are now confirmed for the general election in what is shaping up as one of Montana’s most consequential Senate contests in years.
Results across down-ballot state legislative and local races were still being finalized as of Wednesday, June 3. Final certified tallies from county election offices are expected in the days ahead, with the general election set for November 3, 2026.
