General Motors intends to introduce a new level of driver assistance technology on the 2028 Cadillac Escalade IQ electric vehicle. The system would allow drivers to remove their eyes from the road while operating the vehicle.
The automaker currently offers Super Cruise, a hands-free driving system available in many models worldwide. However, the upcoming iteration represents a significant shift by permitting drivers to look away from traffic entirely.
Industry experts note that other manufacturers are competing to release similar “eyes off” capabilities in the coming years. Companies are increasingly relying on simulation testing to validate these advanced driver assistance systems before public deployment.
Current safety features in vehicles include automatic emergency braking, blind spot warnings, lane departure alerts, and lane-centering assist. The new technology builds upon these existing tools to offer greater automation.
