A vehicle pursuit Monday near St. Ignatius led Mission Schools to enact a precautionary soft lockdown, though authorities said the incident did not directly threaten students, staff or school facilities.
The pursuit began near the Mission Dam homesites outside town limits before continuing into St. Ignatius. The fleeing vehicle did not enter school zones, and school activities proceeded as scheduled.
Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribal Police and St. Ignatius Police were involved. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Montana Highway Patrol responded to assist.
Lake County Sheriff Don Bell said the pursuit was discontinued after the officer involved lost sight of the vehicle. The case remains under investigation, and officials said they could not release additional information.
