Jeremiah James Harwood, a 23-year-old man from Browning, was sentenced Tuesday to five years in federal prison after pleading guilty to strangulation, assault causing serious bodily injury and witness tampering.

Harwood will serve three years of supervised release after completing his prison term. He entered the pleas in August 2026 before Chief U.S. District Judge Brian Morris under a global plea agreement covering two separate cases.

Assaults and Witness Tampering

In one case, Harwood strangled his girlfriend with a lanyard. About a year later, he attacked a different girlfriend.

Harwood also attacked his new partner twice, with the incidents occurring about two weeks apart. The second assault caused a traumatic brain injury that required intubation and surgery.

Harwood later tried to persuade the victim to change her statement. The victim reported him to the FBI.

The sentence follows Harwood’s guilty pleas and includes the prison term and supervised release ordered by Morris.
